The Indian meteorological department, in a slight relief for Delhiites, has claimed that the temperature in the city will hover around 45 C in the city after maximum temperature in the capital had touched 47 C on an average.
Forecasting the city’s weather conditions, B.P. Yadav, deputy general manager of IMD said, “Within the next 4-5 days, the weather conditions are not expected to cross the scale of 45 C, since the westerly win-ds have been cut off and the easterly winds are prevailing due to cyclonic storms.”
Comparing Delhi to other extreme heat-pro-ne areas, Mr Yadav said, “The Delhi summer patterns haven’t been very unusual this year. No records have been brok-en as such, as in comparison to other places like Ahmedabad or Raj-asthan. Within the variability, Delhi heat has been fluctuating, which is a normal scenario.”
The department has initiated a series of campaigns about the precautionary measures that people need to follow during extreme heat.
