Dancer kills girlfriend, hangs himself

A 25-year-old choreographer committed suicide at his dance academy after killing his girlfriend in Neb Sarai area early Wednesday morning.

The deceased were identified as Sachin Rao, aka Sonu, and his girlfriend Yogita Rathore (24), said the police. Sachin was a native of Indore district in Madhya Pradesh while Yogita stayed with her parents in Chattarpur area.

After celebrating his birthday on Monday, Sachin updated his WhatsApp status with “Ik galti fir se ho gyi trust”.

According to the police, a PCR call was received at 10 am about two dead bodies found inside a dance academy at Harijan Basti in Neb Sarai area. A PCR vehicle arrived and the police unlocked the door to find Sachin, a choreographer who runs the ABC Dance Academy in the area, hanging from the ceiling fan with a stole around his neck and Yogita’s body on the floor. Prime facie, it was established that the girl was strangled to death: an AUX cable was found wrapped around her neck. It appeared the youth had then committed suicide. No suicide note has been recovered. Preliminary investigations reveal that Sachin and Yogita had known each other for the past two years. He was a choreographer and she his student.

“They had celebrated Sachin’s birthday on Monday. She used to stay at Sachin’s place often. On Tuesday night she stayed at his dance academy. On Wednesday morning, when students knocked at the gate of the dance academy at 10 am, no one responded. When one student peeped inside the room from a widow, he saw Sachin was hanging and Yogita was lying on the floor. They immediately informed the police,” said a senior police official.

“The family members of the deceased have been informed. Sachin was a native of Indore. He had been staying in the city for the past several years running a dance academy in Neb Sarai area. The girl lives in Chattarpur area,” said a senior police official. Students of the dance academy said Sachin had been depressed for the last few months. They were unaware of the reason. “Sachin sir told all students to take care of the dance academy even after his death. We had thought he was joking. On Monday we had celebrated his birthday but we never knew that this would happen,” said a student.

The police said the bodies have been sent for post-mortem examinations. “We will question students and friends of the deceased to find out the reason that provoked Sachin to kill Yogita and hang himself. The police will also go through the social media profiles of the deceased for clues,” said a senior police official.
