Delhi University may retain CBCS relative grading system

School students are rejoicing over their outstanding results in the Central Board Secondary Education examinations, but in a major setback, the Delhi University is likely to increase the cut off-list by one per cent for the upcoming undergraduate admissions. The cut-offs for all the academic streams could be increased by the varsity this year.

Every year, after the CBSE and state board results are declared, the Delhi University alters its cut-off lists accordingly. For example, if the cut-off list is flatly increased by one per cent, it would make a huge difference for the students seeking admission to the varsity’s numerous undergraduate courses.

This simply means if an A-list college in the North Campus had fixed the cut-off for a particular subject at 94 per cent, it will increase to 95 per cent this year. If we were to put this in perspective, it could lead to the students having fewer options on subjects and courses.

According to university officials, like last year, humanities students have scored well this year too. On the other hand, looking at the all-India topper belonging to the science stream, the DU might increase the cut off-list for science courses too. “This year there has been an increase of 1.05 per cent in the board results which would surely have an effect on the cut-off lists,” he said.
