A driver was waylaid and robbed of his Audi car at gunpoint while he was on his way to pick his employer in South Delhi on Sunday night. The incident took place outside the busy South Extension market at 11.30 pm when Ravi Shanker, a driver by profession, was waiting for his employer in the market.
Two youth on a motorcycle approached him and inquired about a particular location in the locality. When he rolled down the window to help them, all of sudden, the pillion rider pulled out a gun and threa-tened to shoot the driver.
One more person joined the assailants and the duo sat inside the Audi Q7 car. One of the assailants followed the car on the motorcycle, said the victim.
“I was pushed on the back seat and one of the assailants drove the car, while the other held me hostage at gunpoint. They thrashed me and kept driving the car for around one hour. Later, I was dumped at Piragadi in Outer Delhi and the assailants drove away in the car,” the victim added.
Ravi said that the assailants also took his wallet and mobile phone. The victim, with the help of a passerby, informed his employer about the incident and went to the Kotla Mubarakpur police station to file a complaint.
The police said that they received a complaint about the car robbery late on Sunday night. A case has been filed against unidentified persons under relevant sections of the IPC.
Several police teams are working simultaneously to crack the case at the earliest.
However, the owner of the car, who is a senior advocate in the Supreme Court, said that the incident took place at a busy street and the assailants drove for more than an hour in the city, but did not get noticed by the police check posts.
“The whole incident reeks of police apathy. The assailants must have crossed several police check posts on their way to Piragadi, but managed to go unnoticed,” the senior advocate said.
