In a bid to ensure a good turnout in the upcoming Assembly elections, the Delhi Election Commission plans to come up with two mascots. Unlike the earlier version of “Pappu”, the mascots will be inspirational ones for male and female voters. “We have planned two mascots — a female and a male. The research work is complete and the slogans have been decided. We will come up with the entire plan by Monday,” said a senior officer. Earlier during the last Assembly polls, the commission had came up with a cartoon character for sensitising the voters. The character named “Pappu” was a satire on those voters who avoid casting vote. “We are hoping for around 65 per cent turnout in this elections. To sensitise voters, we will launch a massive campaign very soon and the characters we have chosen for mascots are crucial for the campaign,” the official added.
