Delhi University’s Hansraj College will now be generating power supply with the help of solar energy as the college launched a solar energy plant last week.
The premier college located in North Campus is, however, the fourth college after Dyal Singh College, Zakir Hussain College, and Shyamlal College to produce electricity from solar energy.
College governing-body chairman S.K. Sama and the secretary, Srideep Omchari, inaugurated the plant on last Tuesday.
According to college principal Rama Sharma, this is an important move in order to provide green energy to the college. “We are constantly striving to improve and implement plans that are environment friendly. The college has already moved into this direction by installing centralised RO plants, constructing new laboratories and computer labs, expanding the library, and beginning of health and free counselling centre,” Dr Sharma said.
“It feels great to be a part of such a college where so many environment-friendly initiatives are being taken together... As human beings, we need to be conscious of our responsibility towards planet earth,” said a second year student, Vidisha Thakkar.
