In a bid to nurture talent in the city, the New Delhi Municipal Council is planning to develop the park atop Palika Bazar in Central Delhi’s Connaught Place as a spot for artists to showcase their skills.
NDMC officials informed that the council is mulling ways to develop Palika Bazar park as a “happiness area” where artists would be given a platform to hold shows, exhibitions and concerts. “Here, we seek to encourage artists willing to exhibit their talent through their respective means of art: plays, street shows, musicals, concerts, cultural performances, believing that this could be a launch pad for them,” said the official.
Due to its connectivity with Delhi Metro and parking slots, NDMC hopes the idea would receive a positive response.
The park will be developed like Central Park atop Rajiv Chowk Metro station. “The Central Park has received positive response since its inception, and it will be a model for the council,” said the source. The Central Park is known for holding open-air concerts, plays and dance performances, among others. It recently held a series of adaptations of renowned writer Munshi Prem Chand.
As the civic agency is looking into modalities to plan the development, the council is yet to finalise the charges once the area is ready to hold shows.
