Women should be careful about the photos they post on their display profile on WhatsApp as it could lead them into trouble. On Wednesday, the Delhi police arrested a 31-year-old man who sent obscene and vulgar messages to more than 1,500 females across Delhi and NCR, after identifying them from their profile picture on WhatsApp.
Mohammad Khalid, a school dropout and resident of Ballimaran in Delhi, was arrested after a woman from Ashok Vihar filed a complaint, stating that she had received obscene pictures and vulgar texts from two different numbers. When she called the numbers, the caller threatened her he would upload her picture he got from her WhatsApp profile and mobile number on porn websites.
Following the complaint, the Delhi police procured details of the mobile numbers, but found that numbers had been obtained on fake IDs. After surveillance, the suspect was linked to Sadar Bazaar as he bought his SIM cards from that area and also used to get his mobile phones recharged from that particular area.
He had purchased three different SIM cards to send the messages. “The accused was arrested from Sadar Bazar area where he had been running a bag shop along with his father. When confronted, he tried to bluff the police, but later on confessed to his offence. At his instance, two mobile phones were recovered which were used by him to send messages,” Vijay Singh, DCP (northwest), said.
