No second cut-off list in many Delhi University colleges

Delhi University’s South Campus colleges seem to be giving a tough competition to colleges in North Campus as general category students have already filled up seats for most of the South Campus colleges in the first cut-off list itself.

These colleges will close admissions in respective subjects and will not release their second cut-off list. However, there are chances the admissions for the same subjects might be re-opened after the colleges decide their schedule for evening shifts.

On the basis of the first cut-off, Ramanujan College in the South Campus has closed its admissions for B.Com. Honours and B.Com. programmes for general category candidates. The college, which already declared its second cut-off list, witnessed a dip of 3 per cent for Hindi and two per cent for philosophy. Statistics, psychology and computer science saw a drop of 1.5 percentage points.

Similarly, admissions for B.Sc. life sciences, political science (Hons) and B.Com. have been closed in Aurobindo College (morning). “About 760 students have been enrolled for 978 seats. In spite of keeping genuine cut-off list, we have already enrolled a large number of students. The students are simply securing a seat in any college they are getting into, no matter if it is in the South Campus or the North Campus. This is the reason why seats are getting full and colleges are not releasing their second cut-off lists,” said Aurobindo College principal, Dr Vipin Aggarwal.

He also maintained that the admissions might re-open once evening shifts start after the beginning of BBA counselling and declaration of medical exam results.

Admissions to political science courses in colleges like Sri Venkateswara, and Maitreyi has been closed and Lady Sri Ram College for Women (LSR) is unlikely to issue a second cut-off list for sociology.

Kirori Mal College will close admissions to the history, Sanskrit and B.A. (physical sciences) courses. Hindu College will not release a second cut-off list for political science, B.A., sociology, botany and zoology. Indraprastha College for Women, which has enrolled a total of 320 students till now, will not release a second cut-off list for philosophy and history honours courses.

SRCC till Saturday was able to fill up 325 seats for B.Com. (Hons) and 35 seats for economics.

Several colleges have already closed admissions to biology-based courses such as botany, zoology and B.Sc. life sciences and in most of the colleges admissions to the physics, chemistry, mathematics and physical sciences courses remain open.

However, admissions to all subjects would be open in colleges like Miranda House, Kamla Nehru, and Dyal Singh. The DU colleges, which still have nearly 50 per cent seats vacant, will release the second cut-off lists on Monday, with a marginal dip.
