Residents of South Delhi struggle over water supply

South Delhi residents, who have been facing acute water shortage for the past few days, faced a tough time on Wednesday as the temperature in the national capital soared to 47 degrees Celsius. The residents complained that the water supply has been intermittent and the quantity of the supply was too less to meet daily requirements.

Unprepared to face the sudden crunch in the water supply, a student and resident of Greater Kailash said if the situation continues, it will be impossible to manage daily water needs. “Since Tuesday, there has hardly been any water supply. As of now, we have filled all the bottles and buckets that were available at our homes. But with our tanks almost empty, it will be difficult for us to manage any further,” Labanya Maitra said.

The residents of areas such as Green Park, Lajpat Nagar and Hauz Khas also faced a severe water shortage.

Bala, a supervisor of a hostel in Green Park, said, “We have been facing water issues for the past two-to-three weeks. The water being supplied through tanks is very limited. Given that we have so many girls staying here, it does not suffice all their needs.”

The Delhi Jal Board, in response to the growing water crises, said, “There was water leakage in one of the pipes in the Sonia Vihar plant that supplies water to East and South Delhi. This pipe was fixed a week back, but it faced yet another leakage yesterday. The concerned authorities were able to successfully fix the pipe by today morning, and the residents can expect regular water supply from Thursday.”

Residents of the Pahari area of Hauz Khas village also faced water shortage.
