Following the footsteps of Delhi University’s regular colleges, the varsity’s School of Open Learning (SOL) will also be introducing the choice-based credit system (CBCS) for the students from the current academic session.
The study material is currently being prepared by the school. However, the online study material will be prepared first and uploaded on the website immediately.
In order to avoid problems with the new curriculum, PCP (personal contact programme) classes are being increased.
So far, SOL and regular colleges of Delhi University used to offer the same degree and follow the system of teaching individual courses. But now, SOL has also arranged the same CBCS system like the regular colleges for all its five undergraduate courses — BA, B.Com., B.Com. Honours, BA English and BA Political Science.
“We are preparing the online study material for the CBCS courses. By October 15, about 70 to 80 per cent material will be available online,” Campus of Open Learning director C.S. Dubey said.
Prof Dubey maintained that once the CBCS courses are introduced, the students will need more classrooms following which the decision to increase the number of classrooms was taken in the general body meeting last Thursday. “So far, 20 PCP classes were held for students which have now been increased to 30. These classes will also begin from October 30,” he added.
Even though SOL will be following the CBCS for its courses, the examination system will be held in annual mode only. This means, unlike the regular colleges where the student appears for exams two times in a year due to semester mode, SOL students will have to appear for the exam only once in a year.
