With the Aam Aadmi Party legislators planning to launch attacks on lieutenant-governor Najeeb Jung and the Centre, the one-day special Delhi Assembly session on Friday is expected to be stormy. BJP legislator O.P. Sharma will not be allowed to participate in the session which will happen in the absence of chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, who is on a four-day visit to Punjab. The Opposition, on the other hand, will target the government on the recent sex scandal of former minister Sandeep Kumar and the Delhi high court setting aside the government’s order appointing 21 AAP MLAs as parliamentary secretaries.
The decision to convene a special Assembly session was taken by the AAP government a week ago, wherein the main agenda was to target the Union government and the L-G. However in the past one week, several significant developments have taken place in the Delhi’s political landscape, including Mr Kumar’s sacking over the sex scandal and AAP leader Ashutosh’s blog post defending the sacked minister causing embarrassment to the party. Even the Delhi HC on Thursday set aside the Delhi government’s order to appoint 21 AAP MLAs as parliamentary secretaries. These developments have given the Opposition ample fodder to target the government.
While the Opposition has made a strategy to launch an offensive against the government, the AAP government, on its side, has taken stock of the situation. According to the sources, deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia will sit with the legislators himself on Friday morning and give them instructions to speak on the issues. The government will also submit some documents relating to the various departments in the House on Friday. The current political climate in Delhi is much more interesting and so it is certain that this special session will be stormy.
