St. Stephen’s to join centralised process

The Delhi University Admissions Committee during its meeting on Monday took important decisions, most of them were in favour of minority colleges and communities, just before the start of the admission process to undergraduate courses.

The university has decided to reserve only one seat each for Kashmiri migrants in every course in its colleges. Till last year, three per cent of the seats were allotted for the migrants, which means not more than one seat in one stream was allowed.

The varsity will give 50 per cent weightage to the fitness certificates issued to the students by any college and 25 per cent would be reserved for the sports trials. “The committee in its final meeting has decided that while 50 per cent weightage would be given to the fitness certificate, 25 per cent has been kept for sports trials. Up to 15 per cent concession has been given as a general cut-off, which means that if a cut-off has 95 per cent, it would become 80 per cent for the ECA candidates,” said Nachiketa Singh, DU admissions committee member.

St. Stephen’s College and Jesus and Mary College have allowed to follow their own admissions procedure, but they need to generate a centralised university number through the online centralised registration process for all the students.

“Both the minority colleges can have their own policy of admissions, but both of them need to generate a centralised university number for all the students. It means that the colleges have to create a column where they have to upload the centralised number. However, to make this easier a common portal might be created for both the colleges with a web-link. This would be finally decided during the technical meet on Tuesday,” Mr Singh added.

Meanwhile, the university, which has decided to release only five cut-off lists this year, might permit the colleges to decide their own admissions criteria for vacant seats after the final list. However, final recommendations will go to the vice-chancellor for approval.
