Student designs smart cane for blind

A student of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (IPU) has created a “smart cane” for the blind community, for which he recently received an innovation award.

A student of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (IPU) has created a “smart cane” for the blind community, for which he recently received an innovation award.

This project, made by engineering student Abhishek Matlotia, has been selected from about 25,00 innovative projects from across the country.

Mr Matlotia has been conferred with “InfyMaker Award”, which is being given to students every year for their innovations. He has been given an amount of Rs 5 lakh as an award. Abhishek is a final year student of electrical and electronics engineering from Bhartiya Vidyapeeth College of Engineering, Paschim Vihar. His cane consists of many qualities. Firstly, if a blind person is walking with the help of this stick and is about to get hit with something, the cane raises an alarm. A different alarm is sounded when the person is walking towards any kind of liquid.
