Students to require 60 per cent for Sanskrit admission

Delhi University has made it harder to get direct admission to post-graduate Sanskrit studies.

Earlier, the minimum requirement for admission to Sanskrit was 55 per cent, but from this academic session, students would require minimum 60 per cent marks.

A committee member said, “So far, enrolling in Sanskrit with at least 55 per cent was imperative. But this time we decided to increase the percentage. Now, the students who would have 60 per cent in graduation would only be eligible to get admission in Sanskrit at post-graduate level,” he added.

Admission to M.A. Sanskrit, Hindi and English is based on two levels — direct and admission test. However, no changes have been made in eligibility criteria for M.A. English and Hindi.

Similarly, M.A. Arabic and Punjabi, have also not seen any changes in their admission eligibility.

Meanwhile, the students who want to pursue a master’s degree in linguistic studies must pass the entrance examination.

The candidates need to at least obtain 40 points to pass, 70 per cent weightage would be given to entrance examination while 30 per cent weighatge would be given to the academic record of the candidate.
