University teachers protest, urge ugc to fix anomalies

While demanding the UGC to resolve the alleged anomalies, which arose as a result of the Sixth Pay Commission, teachers from the Central universities — JNU, Jamia, Delhi University and IGNOU — took a mass casual leave and protested outside the commission on Wednesday.

The teachers, however, alleged that the HRD ministry and the UGC have initiated retrograde education policies, which is leading to a rapid decline of the academic standards and service conditions of teachers throughout the country.

Reportedly, more than 4,500 teachers are languishing with no permanent jobs in the varsity, following which all the teachers have demanded the immediate filling up of vacant posts with correct roster.

“Even the promotion avenues for teachers has laid crippled for the past 8 years due to anti-teachers’ API system.”

“We all demand that the API system should be immediately rolled back and there should be time bound promotions with counting of past service to all teachers”, Duta president Nandita Narain said.
