VK Shunglu committee set to get extension

Delhi lieutenant-governor Najeeb Jung is all set to give extention till first week of December to the three-member panel headed by former CAG V.K. Shunglu looking into the “irregularities and infirmities” committed by the AAP government since February 15 last year and to pin responsibility on individuals, including civil and criminal liability, if any. The tenure of the Shunglu committee expired on October 7.

Mr Jung had asked the committee to submit a detailed report within six weeks. On the other hand, despite several reminders, departmental heads have failed to provide list of requisite files to Raj Niwas.

In a latest circular, the General Administrative Department (GAD) had directed all principal secretaries, secretaries, Head of Departments and all heads of autonomous bodies, corporations and boards to furnish list of files already submitted to the lieutenant- governor secretariat and details of files which were under submission and pending at various level by October 10.

Interestingly, the circular which was issued on October 6 reached the respective departments only on October 13 due to several holidays in the past few days. The circular said, “The list of such files which were required to be submitted to the lieutenant- governor but have not been submitted as yet be also immediately furnished to the office of lieutenant-governor through appropriate channel under intimation to this office.”

A highly placed source said that on the request of the Shunglu committee members, the lieutenant- governor was all set to grant them extention till first week of December.

The members had sought more time so that they could thoroughly scrutinise all the decisions taken by the AAP government since February 15, 2015. The committee is said to have scrutinised only 50 per cent of the total files so far.
