The Jawaharlal Nehru University administration is planning to build a memorial with a Wall of Fame to mark the martyrdom of NDA passouts who are awarded degrees by the varsity, but the students have already created a “Wall of Shame” on which anonymous postcards are pasted, addressing the behaviour of registrar Bupinder Zutshi.
Mr Zutshi’s role as the university registrar has received criticism from the students and JNU faculty ever since the administration allowed the Delhi police to enter the campus and arrest JNU Students’ Union president Kanhaiya Kumar in connection with the February 9 event in which anti-national slogans were allegedly raised.
A group of students, who deny affiliation to any political wing, was seen asking others to write postcards conveying their messages for the registrar in the campus.
By the evening, hundreds of postcards addressing Mr Zutshi as “Hey Honey,” “Hey Mr Little Man” and “Mr Registrar,” greeted him on the “Wall of Shame” erected just in front of the JNU administrative block. A student from the group said that the installation of the Wall Of Shame was a spontaneous idea.
“Hey Honey, if you feel you are being on a safe side just by putting your students’ lives at stake, you are not. When time comes, even you won’t be spared. Have a good night’s sleep now,” said a postcard written to Mr Zutshi.
The JNU teachers and students have been demanding the registrar’s resignation while holding him responsible for not holding a “credible inquiry” into the February 9 event, where the students are accused of allegedly raising “anti-India” slogans.
Mr Zutshi said that everybody has certain rights, they can say what they want.
“It is not my job to interfere with the inquiry process. In the past, I have defended the police entry on campus. This time permission was given to the police to investigate the matter as per law of land,” added Mr Zutshi.
