A 35-year-old married woman was allegedly gangraped by five youth after her cousin was held hostage on an isolated stretch near NH-24 in Ghaziabad on Friday night.

Superintendent of police Salman Taj Patil said that the victim works with a PSU in Sector 63 of Noida on contractual basis. She had filed a complaint of rape against five unidentified persons. The woman also claimed that her cousin was held hostage while she was being gangraped by the accused.
The victim in her complaint to the police said that at around 8.30 pm she was picked up by her cousin from her office in Sector 63, Noida, and they moved towards their house in Kailash Nagar area of Ghaziabad.
Her cousin was riding a motorcycle and she was on pillion seat. They got stuck in traffic on NH-24 and in order to evade traffic, they took shorter route via Siddhrath Vihar towards Land T. chowk.
When they were riding pass an isolated stretch all of sudden five youth stopped their bike and started misbehaving with her. When the victim’s cousin tried to intervene, the accused thrashed him and she was dragged to bushes along a roadside where all of five men took turns to rape her. And her cousin was held hostage by the accused on gunpoint.
Later, they robbed them of cash and mobile phone and fled from the spot. She then reached to Vijay Nagar police station and reported the matter.
The police said that it has filed an FIR in the case against five unidentified persons and the victim was sent for a medical examination.
“We are investigating the case from all possible angles and it will be worked out very soon. A case has been registered under Sections 376, 323 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code. The victim’s medical examination report is still awaited,” said a senior police official.
