Proving that the once thought-of-as-plebian tequila has truly taken on luxe tones, the French crystal maker Lalique has teamed up with tequila brand Patrón to create an exquisite $7,500 limited edition extra añejo: Patrón En Lalique Serie 1. Only 500 bottles of this super-luxe edition will be made available all over the world — and with that price tag, it’s no wonder!

Incidentally, such uber-expensive deluxe bottles/editions are usually found with Scotch whiskies — a sure sign that tequila has entered the high-flying club among spirits. This is also the first time the iconic Lalique name has been connected with a tequila.

The hand-crfated bottle has been inspired by — what else, but — the blue agave plant and it also has an amber-coloured stopper, that is meant to depict the “heart” of the plant. As for the spirit contained within this exquisite crystal, Patrón’s master distiller Francisco Alcaraz has been said to have created a special blend with his oldest tequilas, maturing them in American and French oak barrels, both old and new, to create a spirit that has notes of caramel, vanilla, honey, dried fruits and nuts.
