Rating actresses barred from the Koffee couch
Karan Johar seems to be under pressure to drop the grading of actresses on looks and talent on his talk show.
Rating actresses according to their looks, talents and/or sexiness has been a regular fixture on Koffee With Karan’s infamous rapid fire round. However, this practice may soon stop, given that several actresses, both on and off record, have complained against this sexist practice of grading women.
Sonam Kapoor, in an interview with Rajeev Masand last week, spoke about how degrading it was to be subjected to a quality calibration, like sheep in a butcher’s market. While Sonam didn’t mention Karan Johar’s show by name, it was pretty clear what she was referring to.
And it’s not just Sonam. Katrina Kaif too made an appearance on Karan’s show and said she found the entire ritual of rating on his show to be grating on her nerves — more so since most of the show’s guests would automatically place Katrina on the bottom of the list, while discussing talent.
Anushka Sharma also added that men are never graded by numbers, so why heroines? Apparently, Karan has been pulled up by mentor Shah Rukh Khan for unwittingly disrespecting women on the show.
“Shah Rukh shows immense respect for women in his films and in real life. He told Karan that asking his guests to rate women according to their looks and talent was not cool. Karan is now under pressure to scrap the rating system from Koffee With Karan, and may soon do away with it,” says a source in the know.
