Padmaavat is superhit despite lowest collections on Thursday, completes extended week
The magnum opus has accomplished another milestone and will be hoping to add more numbers in the weekend.
Mumbai: ‘Padmaavat’, a film which had clouds of uncertainty over its release at the end of last year, has now completed a week (extended) at the box office.
On Thursday, the film earned its lowest, Rs 10.25 crores, and the collections now stand at 159.50 crores, according to Box Office India.
The website has declared the film a superhit, and stated that it could’ve gone on to earn at least Rs 217 crores in the extended week if not for fringe outfits making theatres owners in Rajashtan, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat apprehensive to screen the film.
The collections are likely to jump on the weekends, and makers will hope they can enter the Rs 200-crore club soon.
There is no threat for the Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial as it enjoys another week of uninterrupted run before Akshay Kumar’s ‘Pad Man’ and Sidharth Malhotra’ starrer ‘Aiyaary’ hit the screen on 9 February.
The period drama has been unstoppable at the international box office at places like United States of America, Canada, Australia, Singapore as well and is nearing the Rs 100-crore mark overseas.
For a film which faced so much politically and socially, earning Rs 300 crores worldwide would surely be vindication.
