Bollywood actresses today have been regularly breaking stereotypes. Pregnancy and motherhood are mere blips on their career radar. Take Rani Mukerji for example. The talented actress got back to acting after having daughter Adira, and delivered a smash hit like Hichki. It is no secret that Rani is also a doting mom. “When you are single you can’t imagine what it would be like to be married and become a mother. Today, I feel just great about being Adira’s mom. During the show of Hichki at YRF studious, when Adira accompanied me, she surprised me by running around the studio where posters of the film were put up, saying ‘yeh toh meri mama hai’. She also danced to the song ‘Madamji’. Watching her do all this fills my heart with pride. I am thoroughly enjoying being a mother,” Rani says.

Asked about the changing trend of actresses reveling in motherhood, showing off every stage of pregnancy, which was never the case earlier, Rani says, “There is no question of hiding or showcasing one’s pregnancy. It’s a natural phenomenon and a personal choice. Also, if someone prefers to go outdoors or stay completely indoors while pregnant it is the individual’s choice.”

She adds, “There are certain beliefs followed by all communities regarding pregnancy. Bengalis are not allowed to go out of the house for the first four months. I followed the same thing. Whether a heroine looked beautiful or whether she roamed outdoors while pregnant, etc., are all irrelevant discussions.”
