Working with Sanjay Dutt memorable for Jimmy Sheirgill

Jimmy Shergill may not have had very big parts in Munnabhai MBBS and Lage Raho Munnabhai, but he’s more than excited to share screen space with Sanjay Dutt again in Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster 3.

Talking a little more about the movie, Jimmy reveals that while the first story saw Randeep Hooda as the gangster, and the second saw Irrfan Khan, the third will see Sanjay play the role. “I bet my bottom penny that this gangster (Sanjay) will not only surprise the fans and audiences, but is also unlike the gangster in the first two parts. The third film will start where the second ended — while the biwi has become more powerful, it’s all about royalties, even as the Saheb in jail needs bail.

He talks further about Sanjay’s role. “Well, Sanjay has played a gangster in Vaastav and a few other movies, so the audience can look forward to him playing an important role of the sort again by Baba. But he will be seen in a different light. Our director Tigmanshu Dhulia has portrayed Sanjay in a good way, unlike the earlier gangster characters he may have played,” says Jimmy.

He adds that working with Sanjay again was like taking a walk down memory lane. “However, Sanjay is just the same,” laughs Jimmy. “He possesses a soft heart in this iron-like body. He cracks jokes and makes shooting easy and comfortable for everyone, and he even takes cares of all, especially the spot boys and other technicians. At times we even sat and discussed many old jokes, and Sanju, with his new jokes, made the atmosphere so lively that we didn’t know when the shoot ended.”

As far as his own career goes, Jimmy believes his first innings is still going on, and wouldn’t add Tanu Weds Manu in his  ‘second’ one. “I’m a majdoor (labourer),” he says. “We believe in working hard, and so I have a few films from the Hindi and Punjabi industry. I like to opt for out-of-the-box kind of roles. If I do a Mukkabaaz, I also do a Veere ki Wedding, which will release soon. I may not have had big roles with Sanju earlier, but even in those characters, I tried to put more than my 100 per cent, and made the character memorable.”
