After the success of his light-hearted film 102 Not Out, Rishi Kapoor is all set to be seen in a new light in Mulk. Director Anubhav Sinha says that he wouldn’t have made the film without the veteran actor.

“When I was writing the film, I only had one man in mind. Had he not agreed to do this film, I would not have made it. I don’t know who else I would have cast. I had no other option,” Sinha says, adding, “I must admit when I met him I was very nervous. I was thinking, what will I do if he says no? But fortunately, he liked the script. I had no backup plan.”

Mulk features Rishi Kapoor playing Murad Ali Mohammed, a man who is accused of treason, and Taapsee Pannu playing his lawyer. Talking about his experience working with them, the director says, “They’re thinking actors and they have things to say. Actors do have suggestions, and that’s fine with me. As far as Rishi sir is concerned, I have worked with him in the past — on my first TV show. I know him and his family. He is not temperamental at all, and he is so much fun to work with,” he says.

The film is scheduled to release on August 3.
