The death of Shweta Bachchan's father-in-law earlier this year is the reason for the absence of Diwali fanfare.

This year, one of the most lavish Diwali parties stands cancelled. The Bachchans have decided to forego their annual Diwali party this time round. The death of Shweta Bachchan’s father-in-law earlier this year is the reason for the absence of Diwali fanfare at the Bachchan residence Jalsa in Mumbai.

Says a source close to the Bachchan family, “The Diwali celebration in the Bachchan family is a highlight and the Bachchans looks forward to hosting it. The gates are thrown wide open in the evening on Diwali for all of the Bachchans’s  friends  from the  film industry. Not this year, though. All festivities have been put on hold because of the bereavement in the family.”

Says a source from the family, “There will just be a small puja, where Bachchan saab will be joined by his wife, son and grand-daughter. That’s it!”

Interestingly, the two most lavish Diwali parties in Bollywood are hosted by Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan. Both the mega-stars will be seen together for the first time on screen in Thugs Of Hindostan, which opens a day before Diwali. With the Big B opting out of the Diwali festivities, the spotlight is now on Aamir’s celebrations.

Over to you, Mr Khan.
