Mumbai: Bollywood actor Raveena Tandon sparked a controversy recently when she tweeted that agitating farmers, who are wasting vegetables, grain and agricultural produce and damaging public properties and vehicles, should be arrested and not let out on bail.

Farmers’ have been holding protests since June 1 as they are demanding a fair and reasonable price for milk and agricultural produce in the state. The agitations, however, took a more aggressive turn in Nashik and Pune districts where farmers poured milk on the roads and discarded tomatoes and onions as well. Weighing in on the issue on Sunday, Raveena tweeted, “What a sad thing to happen. Terrible way to protest. Any harm to public property, transport or commodities, should be instantly arrested and jailed without bail (sic).”

Supporters of farmers did not take kindly to the tweet and proceeded to troll the actor. One of them asked her, “What you will eat, if farmers will not produce anything, why you are wasting time because got free internet access.” But an unfazed Raveena was firm on her stand. She replied, “So what are you doing using free internet and tweeting if you feel so strongly, stop using the free Internet and think of ways to help instead of supporting destruction (sic).”

A day later, the actor clarified her comments, stating, “Please read all my tweets from before.have always supported will continue supporting farm-ers,they are our Anna-daatas.  I pray their troubles/debts,watershortages are over soon, nonetheless I request not to resort to destruction, instead can freely distribute produce to the poor (sic).”
