A list of comedy movies.

It is often said that laughter is the best medicine, and Bollywood has stayed not very far in making us laugh our guts out through some of their movies. Hindi cinema is an experience – it makes us laugh, cry, be surprised, leave us shocked, and feel all kinds of emotions. On world laughter day, here are some movies that managed to tickle our funny bones:

‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron’

A cult film based on corruption, ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron’ was among one of Kundan Shah’s best work, starring Naseeruddin Shah, Ravi Baswani, Om Puri and Satish Shah in pivotal roles. The cinematography of the film is essentially the high point. Giving a twist to the epic Mahabharata, the climax of this film isn’t meant to be missed!

‘Andaz Apna Apna’

Initially a dud, ‘Andaz Apna Apna’ starring Salman Khan and Aamir Khan gained its due years after its release. Each character – Prem, Amar, Raveena, Karisma, Shyam, Crime Master Gogo, Robert, Bhalla, Inspector – were characters of their own and are still remembered with fondness.

‘Golmaal’ (Rohit Shetty film)

A situational comedy, Rohit Shetty’s ‘Golmaal: Fun Unlimited’ unfolds in a cute, emotional story, which become the best part of the film – that the story is conveyed while making people laugh – a task which is tough to achieve.

‘Hera Pheri’ (2000)

Dialogues and comic timing were the best bet in this movie. Paresh Rawal as Baburao Ganpatrao Apte really shined in this film, so did Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty and Om Puri.

‘Delhi Belly’

As a coming-of-age, dark comedy ‘Delhi Belly’ starring Imran Khan, Kunaal Roy Kapur and Vir Das in lead roles was accepted with arms wide open. Aamir Khan’s performance in the song ‘I Hate You Like I Love You’ was an equally important highlight of this film.
