Even as the biopic fever heats up, the one movie to watch out for in 2018 has remained the Sanjay Dutt biopic. While Sanjay has had his own share of ups and downs, which makes it an interesting story to tell, Ranbir Kapoor, who is playing the lead role, wants to make it clear that they’re not portraying a saint-like character in the movie.

“With the Sanjay Dutt biopic, he’s been so honest about his life,” says Ranbir. “He’s admitting to his mistakes. We’re not portraying a Gandhi-like character. We’re portraying a very fraud man. He’s someone who is loved and disliked. He’s the most controversial, and to have the ability to give your life so honestly, and to make a movie out of it is very brave.”

He adds further, “If I was in his position, I don’t think I could be this honest about my life, and make myself look like a not nice person. If an audience can take something from that and learn something from his life, I think it’s a very positive thing.”

The yet-untitled biopic also features Manisha Koirala as the late Nargis Dutt, Paresh Rawal as Sunil Dutt and Dia Mirza as Manayata Dutt.
