Historical period dramas seem to be the flavour of the moment for Akshay Kumar. After Gold, a film based on the Indian’s hockey team’s victory at the 1948 Summer Olympics, and Kesari, a film based on the Battle of Saragarhi in which Akshay plays the valiant war hero Havildar Ishar Singh, he’s all set to play another legendary warrior on screen.

The actor will play the 12th-century North-Western King Prithviraj Chauhan, who dominated much of Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh during his reign, in a film produced by Yash Raj Films and directed by Dr. Chandraprakash Dwiwedi, who is best known for helming the 1991 TV show Chanakya.

Akshay is currently busy shooting for Sajid Khan’s Housefull 4, and he’s expected to begin preparing to play Prithviraj Chauhan after he wraps up Anurag Singh’s Kesari.
