Multi-faceted talent enters the glam world
Nimrit, a lawyer, model and now an actor talks about her journey and has a desire to change the way in which women are portrayed in films and series.
Nimrit Kaur Ahluwalia, a successful lawyer and model ventures into the silver-screen. She has always wanted to portray her social responsibility on-screen. Nimrit, in her school days, was inclined towards theatre clubs, as it has always given her an unspeakable feeling of joy of performing on stage. She believes, “Theatre is something which cannot be compared with anything else.”
Nimrit, having parents from strong education background, made sure that she went ahead and pursue law. Her father was in the army and mother was the Principal of a local school. She shares, “I am very fortunate to have such parents who have always helped me through out my journey. Though hailing from a completely different background, they have never resisted my decisions.” Her modelling career started when she was in the final semester of law studies. She thought to participate in the modelling club and came on the Top 12 and thus got the opportunity to participate in Miss India.
1994, the Choti-Sardani actor's birth year, was when Sushmita Sen and Aishwarya Rai had won Miss India and Miss World respectively. Nimrit chirps, “I think it was in my destiny that I participate in the pageant.” She has represented the state level and became Miss Manipur in 2018 after which her opportunities opened-up wide, she bagged a song Masstaani by B Praak and Jaani which was directed by Arvindr Khaira and after this she did another song and did an ad film, during which she had two jobs in her bag but refused to take them.
Though she doesn't plan into completely indulge into acting while closing the gates for her pother career options. She says, “Law is something that I am not intending on leaving completely, I feel that education is very important and will be working for the same in near future.” She added, “In the future when someday I get the right attention and right voice and I have everybody’s ears towards me, I want to use my education and work for women empowerment as I have previously intern with ministry of child well so I planning to continue it.” Nimrat who is currently working for Colors TV, also says, “I just want to do good work, as in good content work, l want to play great characters and I would be extremely happy if I am given an opportunity to be a part of web series as well.”
The model turned actor feels that it is high time that the way in which Indian women are represented through the entertainment world changes.
Her entry into the glam-world does not exclude this fact. She also wants to merge her present and past concluding by, “I would love to play lawyer as my character.”
