Legendary Kathak exponent Birju Maharaj will be choreographing Alia Bhatt’s mujra dance for Karan Johar’s upcoming period drama Kalank. The much in-demand star actress, has no previous experience in the traditional dance form and will be learning the techniques from scratch for the film.
According to a source, “Alia has meet Birju Maharaj two or three times to grasp the basics of Kathak. She will now start rehearsing her steps for the film.”
But there is another reason why Alia is working doubly hard to get her dance movements right. Apparently, the film also stars dancing queen Madhuri Dixit, who is one of the best Indian classical dancers in Bollywood. Madhuri’s mujra segment will be choreographed by veteran choreographer Saroj Khan. Therefore, Alia has to ensure that her maiden attempts at Kathak match up to a seasoned Dixit’s moves.
