Lupt backs off from box office carnage
Lupt is a horror film and has had some good reviews pre-release.
To avoid the carnage at the box office with 19 films releasing this week across India, the makers of the upcoming horror drama Lupt have backed off from releasing their movie at the last minute. Apart from Lupt the other Hindi films are LoveYatri and AndhaDhun.
According to the unofficial numbers, LoveYatri collected around Rs 1.75 crores, but the producers claim the first day collections to be around Rs 2.80 crore. Whereas, Ayushmann Khurrana-Tabu starrer film AndhaDhun has collected around Rs 2.50 crores. However, beating the two Bollywood flicks by a distance, Hollywood film Venom managed to collect more than Rs 4 crore.
“It is not just that there were less screens. The fact that there are so many films releasing on the same date means that people have too many choices. Lupt is a horror film and has had some good reviews pre-release. What is funny is that filmmakers of Lupt, starring Jaaved Jaaferi and Vijay Raaz, got very scared of the competition and postponed the release. It means that they will need to spend a little more money on the promotions when they come next,” says a trade source.
The other releases of the week all over India include various regional language movies. Three Marathi film Boyz2, Hrudayat Something Something and Aata Bass, Paaghadi; a Gujarati film Gattu My Friend; Nota, Desamlo Dongalu Paddaru and Prementha Panchise Narayana in Telugu; 96 and Raatchasan in Tamil, Mandharam and Aickarakkonathe Bhishaguaranmaar in Malayalam, Aadipurana and Naduve Antaravirali in Kannada, Afsar in Punjabi and Hollywood film Venom.
