Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Mere Pyare Prime Minister is about a child’s plea to the nation’s PM for better sanitation facilities in the slums. While the film’s trailer will be out today, the audience will get to witness the director’s ode to iconic filmmaker V Shantaram in March. A source reveals that Rakeysh looks up to V Shantaram’s work and has literally grown up watching his films. “In the film, the festival of Holi is the turning point and an important part of the narrative. And the director couldn’t think of anything better than V Shantaram’s iconic song Jaa Ret Hat Natkat from Navrang, to be part of this scene,” he says adding that an original score has been composed by Shankar Ehsaan Loy and written by Gulzar. “They have used just a part of the old song as a tribute to Asha Bhosle and V Shantaram.” Though the film deals with a serious subject of open defecation and sanitation problems in the country, the filmmaker has made sure that it is very colourful and inspiring.
