When celebs let privacy go public
With stars sharing pictures of their personal lives with fans on social media, one wondyashika mathur.
In the world of social media, celebrity couples paint the town red with their full-of-love, dreamy pictures. Be it on a vacation to exotic locations or in the comfort of their homes, everything seems to be perfect for the two people madly in love. But here’s what’s interesting — while the celebrities keep their personal life very well guarded, there is someone who is with them everywhere to make sure that a beautiful, and often times private moment, is captured and put out for others to shower adulation.
Famous celebrities like Anushka Sharma-Virat Kohli, Priyanka Chopra-Nick Jonas and Sonam K Ahuja-Anand Ahuja are just some of the couples who keep social media abuzz with their lovely pictures.
In fact, when Priyanka Chopra’s picture of her sleeping in the bedroom with husband Nick Jonas recently went viral, many wondered how an intimate picture like this made it to social media unless the stars gave permission to someone to go ahead and take those pictures.
Be it getting a professional photographer to travel with them or hiring a photographer at their holiday destination, celebrities are letting professionals enter the boundaries of their personal lives to make sure that they give out ‘candid’ moments to their fans. Interestingly, a lot of these expectations originate from society, which public figures feel obliged to adhere to.
Kamna Chhibber, a clinical psychologist and Head — Mental Health Department of Mental Health and Behavioural Sciences, Fortis Healthcare, says, “We expect celebs to be perfect. Society pushes a lot of expectations on them and they keep on doing things which they feel society requires of a celebrity. Until and unless there’s a paradigm shift, there won’t be a shift in the celebrities’ behaviour.”
Talking on behalf of the photographers, Delhi-based celebrity photographer Aurobindo says, “If celebs are hiring a photographer for pictures, the brief is to make them look good and fancy, which grabs attention on social media. It’s not a very taxing job because he gets to travel with them, his stay and food is taken care of. If you love what you do, it’s not work at all.”
While keeping fans hooked to their pictures is an age-old tradition, what’s new is the fact that celebrities seem to have evolved with the changing media.
Social media analyst Karthik Srinivasan says, “It would be wrong to say that they are sharing their intimate lives with the world. They are not. They are just showing a very small part of their lives in the form of orchestrated pictures. So, while in earlier days, there used to be elaborate film shoots for magazines, now, they have moved to social media to get a reaction from their fans.”ers if a professional photographer follows them at all times
