Ayushmann Khurrana to play a homosexual in the sequel of 'Shubh Mangal Saavdhan'

The film titled as 'Shubh Mangal Zyaada Saavdhan', will have a gay love story with Aysuhmann as its main character.

Mumbai: Ayushmann Khurrana is one actor who constantly raises a bar with his offbeat choices. After essaying multiple path-breaking characters in social taboo films, the actor is all set to feature in a film based on queer love-story. Yes, you heard that right. The 'AndhaDhun' actor will play a gay man in the film based on the subject which is still taboo in the society, homosexuality.

According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, the 'Badhaai Ho' star is reuniting with his Shubh Mangal Saavdhan (2017) producer Aanand L Rai to make the sequel of the film called Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan.

While the first film, Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, was based on subject of erectile dysfunction, the sequel will show a gay love story from a small town.

A source close to the development told the daily, "The first draft of the script has been locked. This time the makers have decided to bring homosexuality as the main theme in a mainstream Hindi film."

The source added, "It revolves around how a conservative family comes to terms with the fact that their son is gay. The humour is situational."

Talking to the daily, Aanand said, "The Shubh Mangal Saavdhan franchise is our tribute to the churning that keeps our society alive. Every installment will deal with a topic that touches every person but no one wants to speak about it publicly. Like the first film, this one too will broach a taboo subject with great sensitivity and light humour. I anticipate a lot of conversations and cheer around the second film too."

Directed by Hitest Kewalya, the film is expected to kick-off in the last week of August and will have an early 2020 release.

Ayushmann is currently busy with 'Stree' director Amar Kaushik's 'Bala' and Ekta Kapoor produced 'Dream Girl'. The actor will be next seen as police officer in director Anubhav Sinha's 'Article 15'.
