Egos bigger than Box Office
Eid has been lucky for Salman since the release of Wanted and with Dabangg, Bodyguard, Ek Tha Tiger, Kick, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, and Sultan doing well.
The last time when Akshay Kumar’s release dates clashed with someone else’s, namely Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavat, the actor gave way to the period drama.
However, Eid 2020 may not see Akshay taking that call, because he is not the producer of Sooryavanshi, but Karan Johar and Rohit Shetty are. Meanwhile, Sanjay Leela Bhansali is the producer and director of Inshallah along with Salman Khan.
“Had Akshay been the producer, he and Bhansali would have surely arrived at a consensus and one of them would have certainly made way for the other. SLB’s Saawariya had clashed with Om Shanti Om, leading to a disaster for the Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoo-starrer,” a trade source says.
Later, Bajirao Mastani clashed with Dilwale and that was detrimental to the latter. And now we have this clash of Inshallah and Sooryavanshi; Bhansali has officially dug in his heels on Eid 2020.”
Egos have often been bigger than the box office collections in the film industry, with both filmmakers confident, or rather overconfident, about their respective films. “Bhansali has two of the biggest stars of Bollywood in his film and he is one of the best filmmakers himself. On the other hand, Rohit is a filmmaker who has given eight '100 crore films in a row. And he has Akshay and Katrina in the film, which will also have extended cameos from Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh, making it one of the most awaited commercial films of the year. If a clash can be avoided it will be the best for the industry, but for that people need to cast their egos aside,” adds the source.
Eid has been lucky for Salman since the release of Wanted and with Dabangg, Bodyguard, Ek Tha Tiger, Kick, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, and Sultan doing well. The actor, however, went wrong with Tubelight and Race 3.
And despite a slow down, Salman did not let go of his release date for Bharat. Bhansali has never given up any of his release dates yet either. So if that is any indication, who will blink first? Or will they blink at all?
