Rumour has it that actor Madhavan has turned down an offer to star in a Hindi remake of his Tamil blockbuster Vikram Veda. Here’s why.

“Doing a remake just doesn’t excite me. It’s like travelling down the same road for the second time. I’d rather take a new road each time. Also, I just don’t think I can put the same amount of energy into the story again,” he says, adding that he believes a remake only has the potential to be successful when it has a fresh cast and crew.

This isn’t the first time the actor has said no to a remake. He even turned down the remake of Mani Ratnam’s Alaipayuthey, a role that ended up going to Vivek Oberoi.

“We’ve done what we had to do with Vikram Veda. Now it’s time to let it go into the big wide world,” Maddy says, sighing dramatically.

Meanwhile, he’s excited about the new age of entertainment. “We are seeing a gradual demolition of the lines that divide Bollywood and non-Bollywood films. The language and format of storytelling are unlimited,” he says.
