The Amboli police registered a case after movie director Anurag Kashyap received a threat message on Twitter in connection with a post that he had put out criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Tempers were flying high and sharp words were exchanged at the press conference of the movie Mukkabaaz in the city on Wednesday, which saw film director Anurag Kashyap engaged in a bitter battle of words with a reporter. Snapping in response to a question by a reporter, Kashyap said, “Before talking about others we should look within. The media’s job entails taking responsibility, but how are they really contributing? What is your role in solving issues? Honestly, tell me how many in this room write correct headlines.”

When the resporter responded that this was not true, Kashyap curtly said, “You’re lying. Prove to me you’re not lying and I will prove that I am right.” Offended and indignant, the reporter replied, “I just asked a question and you are accusing me of something that is not true. You cannot make accusations without proof when I’m asking you a simple question.”

The reporter went on to say that the media projects the truth and nothing else and such statements are incorrect. But Anurag Kashyap denied this saying he has got used to lies from the media since it is so rampant. After this, some reporters left the room in a huff, angrily retorting, “Why did you invite the media if you think we’re lying?” But Kashyap stuck to his stand and insisted, “Tell me the truth and I will be quiet.”

At this point, the moderator finally intervened and said there was a misunderstanding, and it was best to move on with the question and answer session.
