Alia sorry for using a racial slur
Meanwhile, Alia's friend Brad has been active in the BLM protests
Alia Shawkat, who has been in the news for her friendship with Brad Pitt, was recently criticised after a video of her using racial slur went viral. The Arrested Development star has now issued an extensive apology.
In an interview four years ago, The Search Party actress had used the N-word to describe her excitement about a project going well. In the wake of Black Lives Matter protests, Alia released an apology, saying, “It was a careless moment, one I am ashamed and embarrassed by, but vow to learn from. I regret using a word that carries so much pain and history to Black people, as it was never a word to be used by someone who is not Black.”
She further added, “As an Arabic woman, who can pass for White, I’m working hard to process this nuanced access I’ve been afforded and I realise how important it is to be hyper vigilant in the spaces I exist in.”
