Even though Rani Mukerji’s new look from the film Mardaani 2 is out, and the release date has been fixed for December 13, the antagonist to be cast opposite Superintendent of Police Shivani Shivaji Roy (played by Rani) has still been kept under wraps.

While one section of the rumour mill suggested that Ananya Panday’s brother, Ahaan, had bagged the role, another set of wags clarified that it could be the son of an erstwhile heroine who shares the same surname.

“They had kept the bad guy in the first part of the Pradeep Sarkar directed film under wraps. Tahir Raj Bhasin, therefore, had emerged as a big menacing villain who was the kingpin of a child trafficking racket in the film. So they want to do the same thing for this film too,” our sources say.

In Mardaani 2, Rani will be seen pitted against a 21-year-old man, who can be called pure evil. There is a lot of anticipation on the crime that Rani will try to solve in the sequel. The sequel also marks the directorial debut of Gopi Puthran, the writer of the first Mardaani film.

Produced by Aditya Chopra, this will be Rani’s next release after the global blockbuster Hichki, that earned 250 crores worldwide.
