Box-office: Demonitisation halts Rock On 2, opens to 1.7 crore approx on Friday
It's highly unlikely the film would recover from here, and another box-office disaster's around the corner
Mumbai: 'Rock On!! 2,' has opened to disastrous box-office results, unexpectedly and it seems extremely difficult for the film to recover from this point.
The film had been one of the most highly anticipated sequels in recent times. However, prime minister Narendra Modi's overnight scrapping of 500 and 1000 rupee notes has severely affacted the films chances at the box-office.
Demonitisation has affected the country's populace as a whole, and the audience have decidedly given the movies a miss, for the ATMs and banks.
The fact has been rendered ample testimony by the film's opening, which was a ridiculously dismal 1.75-2 crores approximate domestic gross, reports Box-office India.
The soundtrack of the film, a sequel to Abhishek Kapoor's cult 'Rock On!!, has been unable to emulate the success of its predecessor, and that's proven detrimental to a considerable extent, as well.
'Rock On!! 2,' helmed by Shujaat Saudagar, has only marginally opened better than 'Mirzya,' Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's launch vehicle for Anil Kapoor's son, Harshvardhan Kapoor.
But despite the demonitisation, trade pundits believe there's been an absolute lack of interest in the film, towards its release, mainly owing to Shankar-Ehsan-Loy's uninspiring and unsuccessful soundtrack.
It's highly unlikely the film would recover from here, and another colossal box-office disaster is around the corner, by the looks of this tragedy of an opening.
