Sujoy Ghosh, Vidya Balan to tell a third Kahaani

Whatever the box office outcome of Kahaani 2, director Sujoy Ghosh is all set to direct Vidya Balan yet again in a third Kahaani franchise film. The director shares that he was disappointed when she had initially turned down the role for Kahani 2.

“It was unexpected but it wasn’t Vidya’s fault at all. We build all these unreasonable expectations from those close to us and set ourselves up for disappointment,” he says, and goes on to elaborate how their different perspectives about the film was what led to Vidya opting out.

“When I narrated a script to Vidya she told me not to call it Kahaani 2. She felt it was not in that genre at all. She was completely right, but it hurt my sentiments at the time,” he says.

While Sujoy was disappointed by the box office outcome of the movie, he has no complaints about his leading lady. “Vidya’s dedication is on another level altogether. For a particular sequence, Vidya lay on the busy Grand Trunk Road for two hours with heavy traffic all around her just to get the right feel for the shot,” he gushes.

It is this solid partnership between the director and actress that has prompted Sujoy to try a third Kahaani film despite the failure of the second attempt in terms of box office results. “We did something unexpected in Kahaani four years ago and I know people expect another Kahaani from me and Vidya. We are going to tell another kahaani (story). Hopefully this one will grip audiences’ mind the same way as the first film did.”
