Mumbai: Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Padman’ has been in the news since the time it was announced, for reasons more than Akshay himself. ‘Padman’ is the debut production of Akshay’s wife Twinkle Khanna, more popularly known as Mrs. Funny Bones. Apart from that, the movie has got all the support from the original pad man Arunachalam Muruganantham. But very few know that before this, there was another movie on the popular menstrual man. That was Abhishek Saxena’s directorial movie ‘Phullu’ which starred ‘Filmistaan’ fame Sharib Hashmi in the lead role.
When the ‘Padman’ trailer released today, we saw some striking similarities between that and ‘Phullu’ trailer.
Agreed that ‘Padman’ looks like a happier film that has a mass appeal as compared to ‘Phullu’, but the drama from the families and the society remains the same in both the trailers.
It all begins by showing a happy couple, where the husband is either unaware of or doesn’t wish to understand that his wife goes through the menstruation cycle every month and is in dire need of a pad. In both the movies, we see the wives tell their husbands that they don’t understand what the woman goes through. Also, both ‘Padman’ and ‘Phullu’ try to give their loved one (sisters in ‘Padman’ and wife in ‘Phullu’) a pad, but both get faced with criticism for their act (by wife in ‘Padman’ and mother in ‘Phullu’). Both the frustrated men try to bring in a change. In fact the trailers end at a point where they keep the audiences intrigued about how the change will really happen?
‘Phullu’ released this year and the plot of the movie is out in the open. So will ‘Padman’ be able to deliver something different?
