Rumours have been flying thick and fast that a sequel to the Rani Mukerji-starrer Hichki is on the cards, post its successful outing at the box office. The film has even raised director Siddharth P. Malhotra’s brand value a few notches, considering he had earlier directed the spectacular flop, We Are Family, for Karan Johar.

Interestingly, rumours of a sequel had been doing the rounds even when Mardaani, Rani Mukerji’s earlier film, had done well. It has, however, turned out that the rumours have sprung from idle minds. “I, too, have heard stories about a sequel, but there is no truth to them. There is no sequel planned,” Siddharth says.

“There is no way a sequel can happen for Hichki unless it is an independent film. Hichki ended with Rani as an old woman, how would a sequel be possible then?” our trade source adds.
