Mumbai: Madhur Bhandarkar, along with his star cast Anupam Kher, Neil Nitin Mukesh and Kirti Kulhari of 'Indu Sarkar', unveiled the trailer of the film on Friday.

Still fresh from the massive success of critically acclaimed 'Pink,' Kirti Kulhari shared her experience and the kind of training she had to undergo in order to perfect the character of Indira Gandhi for 'Indu Sarkar.'

Kirti learn the nuances of the first lady Prime Minister of India and the then central figure of the Indian National Congress party, Indira Gandhi.

She said, "My character had to stammer a lot in the film, I watched a lot of videos related to it. Then I visited a psychologist to understand the mindset of a child who's lost his parents at an early age. It was really taxing. Otherwise, I didn't have to really work hard on my looks."

When asked whether the film was entirely based on Indira Gandhi and the infamous emergency from 1975 to 1977, filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar divulged, “The film is loosely inspired from the emergency period and Indira ji's character is 70% fiction and 30% based on her.”

Anupam Kher, who is also a crucial part of this film, has recently been in the news for his upcoming film 'The Accidental Prime Minister' on former Prime Minister of India- Manmohan Singh.

When quizzed him about 'The Accidental Prime Minister' film, Kher laughed out and admitted, “I've signed a contract to not reveal anything about this film but it is not a silent film. (Mostly, taking a dig at Mr.Singh's poised behaviour during his tenure as the PM of India).”

Kher has been openly supporting the ruling party Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The film is based on the Emergency, a 21-month long period from 1975-77, when Prime Minister Indira Gandhi unilaterally had a state of emergency declared across the country.

'Indu Sarkar' is Madhur Bhandarkar's next outing after 'Calendar Girls,' which tanked miserably at the Box Office.

It is slated to release on July 28.
