A liberal approach to Salman's Race 3
A source from the Indian censor board finds the discrepancy in perception to be disconcerting.
While the Salman Khan-starrer Race 3 escaped the Indian censor board’s touch unscathed, it’s British counterpart doesn’t share the same feelings.
The British censor board has asked that certain scenes with strong violence be cut from the big-budget action film, while the movie has been granted a 12 A certification (meaning children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult).
A source from the Indian censor board finds the discrepancy in perception to be disconcerting.
“Are we to presume that the Indian censor board is more liberal than its British counterpart? To be honest we did have reservations about certain shots being suitable for a ‘U/A’ certification. But there is a standing instruction from above that nothing should be cut unless absolutely necessary. We are looking at an era of unstoppable liberalism. This is to countermand the sanskari era of Pahlaj Nihalani,” says the source.
While censor board chief Prasoon Joshi has refrained from commenting, this is what former chief Pahlaj Nihalani has to say: “If you are a filmmaker with strong sexual or violent content, now is the time to quickly go to the censor board. I hear nothing gets stopped. Sanskari censorship has been replaced by sab-chalta-hai censorship. Welcome to the new liberal world.”
