The year 2017 has been one of dreamy weddings. Romantic goals apart, celebs have also given couples major fashion goals! New-age brides like Anushka Sharma, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Amrita Puri and Sagarika Ghatge ditched traditional Indian colours like red, orange, bright yellow and hot pink, for softer and lighter hues, thus changing the fashion trend this wedding season.

Every bride-to-be spends a lot of time in search of the perfect wedding outfit. So what are the colours one can choose from? “Ashes of rose, champagne gold, ice blue, pistachio green and dove grey are the colors for this season,” says designer Harpreet Narula of the brand Rimple and Harpreet Narula, who’ve designed for Padmavati. “Soft pastels give wedding ensembles a dreamy, ethereal and romantic vibe, and are perfect for day as well as destination weddings. With more brides making individual choices and breaking away from the cookie cutter mold of reds and pinks, these soft colors are definitely the trend this season,” he adds.

Despite their Indian features and values, brides today also represent the modern woman — someone uninhibited in thoughts and firm in beliefs. “Breezy summer palettes with hues of peach, mint green and champagne in sheer fabrics and contemporary silhouettes are gaining in popularity among brides-to-be. Skipping the traditional stereotypical bridal wear help a bride’s personality shine on her big day,” says designer Shantanu of the brand Shantanu & Nikhil.

Nikhil adds, “This year’s trend is ‘less is more’. Brides can keep their accessories minimal yet bold to make for a stunning ensemble. Focus should be on the right jewellery with unique encrusted details, matching and pairing it correctly to give the unconventional touch with decadence.”

Celebrity designer Amit Aggarwal however, offers a different insight. “I am not a follower of trends but am currently loving soft metallics like rose gold and ice blue for brides this season. The outfit a bride chooses to wear and its colours are a reflection of her personality. So, she shouldn’t be bound by a few colours and should be able to choose throughout the spectrum to suit the occasion,” he says.

Bridal ensemble is incomplete without jewellery and accessories. If you choose a softer hue for the lehenga, then the jewellery should complement that. Well-known wedding stylist Meha Bhargava advises, “If the bride’s lehenga is gold or pink, a bold statement neck piece in similar shades can do wonders to the look. Statement jewellery always adds a dash of elegance and lifts the look. A bride can even opt for an ivory white lehenga and have pops of color with bright-coloured jewellery, rich coloured dupattas or colourful embroideries to make it look stylish, yet unique. Another way to accessorise royal-hued lehe-ngas is with layered jewellery. Pairing different jewellery pieces harmoniously will give a royal feel. Most importantly, always opt for what suits your body, skin and face type instead of blindly following a trend.” Harpreet opines, “Traditional polki jewellery works best with light colors without overpowering them.”
