Is Varun Dhawan starrer Rannbhoomi a revamped version of Karan Johar's Shuddhi?
Varun Dhawan, Shashank Khaitan and Karan Johar announced on Monday that they are collaborating for 'Rannbhoomi'.
Mumbai: Varun Dhawan, Shashank Khaitan and Karan Johar announced on Monday that they are collaborating for ‘Rannbhoomi’, which is slated to release in Diwali 2020.
According to a report on Mid-Day, the movie is a reimagined version of Karan Johar’s dream project ‘Shuddhi’, which was otherwise on the backburner.
Varun had told the daily, "Shashank is not only a close friend, he’s also a film-maker whom I have tremendous respect for. Our association has always been successful and magical, and we decided to take our alliance further and create a mammoth spectacle. Dharma is home for the both of us, and what better team than this to collaborate on a Diwali celebration? ‘Rannbhoomi’ is an ambitious film with a beating heart."
‘Shuddhi’ was in the news for its cast. At first, it was being reported that the movie would see supposed ex-lover Hrithik Roshan and Kareena Kapoor Khan back on screen. But then Hrithik walked out of the project and it was being said that Salman would replace him. Then Karan Johar’s favourite muses Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt were announced as the lead in 2015, but the project reportedly got shelved.
But now the daily asserts that ‘Rannbhoomi’ is just ‘Shuddhi’ with a new face, since Karan thought the title ‘Shuddhi’ was a bad omen.
