Deepika Padukone was slated to fly off to Canada and Sri Lanka to shoot for Shakun Batra’s untitled next, co-starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Ananya Panday, when COVID-19 struck and subsequently put her plans on hold.

“Deepika was to reach Sri Lanka on March 18 after her trip to Canada and the team was to begin shooting, but thankfully around five days before, they realised the gravity of the situation and called off the shoot. Shakun was to also fly a few days later and he cancelled it as well, in consultation with the producer Karan Johar, who had earlier bankrolled Shakun’s film Kapoor and Sons,” says our source.

Interestingly, the film is a mature love story on relationships wherein Siddhant and Deepika are a couple in their thirties and Ananya Panday is the one who brings in the exuberance of youth in the story.

“The film is ideally a relationship drama between a couple who are a bit mature in their thinking and age, as compared to other relationship films these days,” add sources.

Deepika’s other film this year ‘83, which she is producing and doing a cameo in as Romi Dev, has also been in abeyance without a release date in place. The actress-producer’s film Chhapaak earlier this year fell victim to hate after her JNU visit.
